Marin hike: Kehoe Beach offers a long trip back in time

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:09:14 GMT

The first report of giant sunfish remains on a Point Reyes beach emerged via Instagram, where a local Marin feed posted the picture. News outlets picked up the story, expanding it to explain that the 6-foot animal with its deceptively nonhydrodynamic-looking shape was not just your average mola mola sunfish but instead was a rare mola tecta, or hoodwinker sunfish. The remains were discovered by a surfer, and after one of the stories identified the location as Kehoe Beach, my intrepid partners in the outdoors and I decided that Kehoe would be the destination for our regular Sunday outdoorsing. Cousins, who has never missed a game because of an injury in his 12-year career, could miss the rest of the season after suffering the non-contact injury on a freak play. “Three-man rush and he kind of stepped up in the pocket. That is all I saw,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said. “I just know in some of my dialogue with Kirk it seems like maybe ...
